COMPUCHILD is an after-school education franchise built on the belief that true learning begins with connection. Education, especially for children, must include close touchpoints not only between teachers and students, but also among families, mentors, and the local community. This is why COMPUCHILD operates as a franchise network. Each franchise owner is a local educator, parent, or entrepreneur who understands the children and families they serve. These local connections help keep COMPUCHILD’s programs personal, relevant, and deeply rooted in every community.
It was through one such community connection that an inspiring initiative began. In Mountain House, California, local student Niveta Sree Gunda dreamed of bringing the NASA International Space Apps Challenge™ to her hometown to inspire interest in STEM among her peers. When she looked for support to make her idea a reality, COMPUCHILD stepped in with enthusiasm. The organization provided outreach, guidance, and sponsorship to help turn her idea into a successful event that united students, mentors, and families around innovation and discovery.
What started as one student’s idea has now grown into a community tradition of creativity and collaboration. With COMPUCHILD’s continued support, the Mountain House NASA Space Apps Challenge recently celebrated its third successful year, bringing together 76 participants and 16 team submissions. The event has become a shining example of how strong community partnerships can open doors for young innovators and nurture lifelong curiosity.
The NASA Space Apps Challenge: A Great Opportunity to Conduct Research
The NASA Space Apps Challenge is a global hackathon organized by NASA’s Science Mission Directorate. Each year, thousands of coders, scientists, designers, storytellers, and technologists come together to create solutions for real challenges that affect Earth and space exploration. Using NASA’s open source data, teams work on projects that address important topics such as climate change, sustainability, and space research.
By making scientific data available to the public, NASA encourages transparency, collaboration, and creativity on a global scale. For students, this event offers a rare opportunity to use real research to solve real problems while developing skills in critical thinking, teamwork, and communication.
Empowering Students to Think, Create, and Lead
Supporting programs like the NASA Space Apps Challenge fits perfectly with COMPUCHILD’s mission to nurture curiosity and empower the next generation of thinkers and innovators. Students gain hands-on experience by analyzing data, testing ideas, and developing creative solutions that combine logic with imagination.
These experiences teach more than technical ability. They help students develop resilience, adaptability, and a deeper understanding that innovation happens through collaboration and shared learning. COMPUCHILD believes that these lessons help children see that their ideas can make a genuine difference.

Outstanding Research by Participants
A Global Community of Young Innovators
One of the most inspiring aspects of the NASA Space Apps Challenge is the sense of global connection it creates. Students in Mountain House became part of a worldwide network of learners and creators who share a love for exploration and discovery.
Through this international collaboration, students discover that science and technology connect people across cultures and continents. COMPUCHILD’s involvement helps local learners see themselves as part of a larger movement where their creativity contributes to something meaningful and far-reaching. Through its local franchisees in the United States and Canada, COMPUCHILD is committed to spreading this challenge and learning experience, so children in every community can benefit.
Learning the Language of Innovation
The challenge also teaches students the importance of clear and confident communication. Each project is evaluated on impact, creativity, scientific accuracy, and presentation, reminding students that how they explain their ideas matters as much as the ideas themselves.
As they share their findings and explain their thinking, students learn how to express complex ideas in ways that others can understand. This balance between technical skill and creative communication reflects COMPUCHILD’s Entrepreneurial STEAM™ education model, which helps students innovate with confidence and integrity.
COMPUCHILD’s Commitment to Community-Based Learning
As an active supporter of the Mountain House NASA Space Apps Challenge, COMPUCHILD played a central role in mentoring and evaluating the projects. COMPUCHILD President Shubhra Kant and her team were inspired by the imagination, depth, and problem-solving skills shown by the participants. Selecting winners was not easy since each project reflected thoughtful effort and creativity.

COMPUCHILD Team Members Participated as “Galactic Local Judges”
For COMPUCHILD, experiences like this demonstrate why community-based learning matters. The organization believes that education flourishes when it grows from within the community and connects with children’s everyday lives. This belief forms the foundation of its franchise model, which gives local educators and entrepreneurs the ability to deliver meaningful, hands-on programs that inspire curiosity and growth. Through its partnerships, events, and after-school programs, COMPUCHILD continues to nurture compassionate thinkers, creative problem solvers, and responsible innovators.
A Call to Like-Minded Entrepreneurs
With more than thirty years of experience in after-school education, COMPUCHILD remains dedicated to helping children think critically, work collaboratively, and innovate ethically. Its Entrepreneurial STEAM™ enrichment programs, offered across the United States and Canada, combine creativity, problem solving, and real-world application to help children understand not only how technology works but also how it can be used to make the world better.
COMPUCHILD believes that education should be community-driven and in-person, led by people who know their neighborhoods best. Every community has its unique needs, and every child learns differently. That is why COMPUCHILD’s franchise model empowers passionate educators and entrepreneurs to bring engaging, hands-on learning directly to their communities.
If you believe in the importance of local, ethical, and hands-on education, COMPUCHILD invites you to join its mission.
